Handsome hatch The Mégane RS is a great-looking car, one that leaves the majority of hatchbacks in its wake. This athletically inclined model is possessed of a resolute stance, low-slung body and dynamic features that include flared wheel arches. And it’s available in a choice of chic colours. If you’d like your RS Sport to exhibit a cool tone, then a standard-issue Glacier White solid paint finish should be just the ticket. However, if you’d prefer something with a little extra sparkle, Pearl White and Diamond Black are fine metallic options. And providing the visual equivalent of a citrus tang is Orange Tonic and Liquid Yellow – two very arresting colours.
Practically perfect As gorgeous as the RS sport undoubtedly is, there’s no questioning its practical qualities. The most obvious example of this is a five-door body, which makes it a perfect choice for families, businesses and socially active solo drivers alike.
Awe-inspiring alloys The Mégane RS Sport rides on super-stylish 19-inch alloy wheels that sport a snazzy diamond-effect design. It’s not all about appearances, however, because alloy is at least as robust as its steel equivalent – and much lighter, which does the vehicle’s performance levels no harm at all.
RS styling We mentioned flared wheel arches earlier, just one instance of the car’s grade-specific features. Also included are special RS sills, a flat-bottomed-effect side skirt, a debonair rear spoiler and an RS insignia that also adorns the rear of the vehicle.
A roomy interior Unlike some rivals, there’s room in the back of this car for three passengers. That said, the Mégane RS Sport is most ideally suited to transporting four full-size travellers (or three young passengers) over longer distances. In any case, there’s a good amount of headroom available in both compartments. And in addition to numerous handy stowage cubbies, which are situated throughout the cabin, the car possesses a surprisingly capacious boot. Cargo volume begins at 434 litres, rising to a very useful 1,247 litres once rear seats are dropped.
Sporty cabin The car’s interior is just as sporty as its exterior. For example, you’ll notice RS buckets seats up front, as well as a Nappa leather-upholstered steering wheel and gearstick, each embellished with racy red stitching. Meanwhile, all seats are upholstered in black Alcantara leather and finished off with classy red contrast stitching.
Sounds terrific It seems only fair that a great-looking and super-quick car should boast a premium audio set-up, which is why the RS Sport is installed with a nine-speaker BOSE sound system, featuring an MP3-compatible AM/FM tuner, DAB radio, AUX and USB ports and streaming-friendly Bluetooth.
Ride on time An 8.7-inch touchscreen provides access not only to the car’s many audio features but navigation functionality, making the process of route-planning as simple as can be. With the RS Sport, you can easily plan your journeys ahead of time, and make last-minute changes based on real-time weather and traffic reports.
Performance The Renault Mégane RS Sport is propelled by a 1.8-litre petrol engine, which produces a maximum torque of 390Nm at 2,400rpm. This turbocharged unit enables the car to go from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.8 seconds. Putting aside the ‘hot’ part of the ‘hot hatch’ equation for one moment, the car delivers decent fuel-efficiency too, managing a creditable 6.4 litres per 100 km.
Safe as well as swift The RS Sport boasts a five-star ANCAP safety rating and comes with a wide range of passive protective features and driver aids. So while the car is no slouch in terms of potency and pace, it also has plenty of precautionary measures up its metaphorical sleeve.
Kid-friendly This hot hatch demonstrates its child-friendly credentials in a number of ways. For a start, it features ISOFIX anchor points on each outer rear position, allowing you to safely and securely transport the most precious cargo of all.
Advanced Emergency Braking System One of many driver aids included as standard, Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS), autonomously detects the potential for collision with the vehicle ahead. In such an instance, an alert is sounded, and if you’re unable to take evasive action in time, maximum braking pressure is automatically applied.
